Purse and SmallWorks Catalogue

The $10,000 SmallWorks Purse is broken into five (5) categories:

  • SmallWorks North America Gold Medal and $5,000 prize
  • SmallWorks North America Silver Medal and $2,500 prize
  • SmallWorks North America Bronze Medal and $1,500 prize
  • The Greenwich Workshop Gallery Director's Award and $500 prize
  • The Greenwich Workshop Publisher's Award and $500 prize

None of the prizes listed above are purchase awards and will be granted independently of the sale (or lack thereof) of the individual work. No single work will capture more than one prize.

The Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals and listed prize(s) will be determined through a combination of collector voting via the internet and judges' recommendations. The Gallery Director's Award and Publisher's Award are merit awards determined by the Gallery Director and Greenwich Workshop Publisher.

The SmallWorks North America Top 40 will be determined by a combination of collector voting via the internet and judges recommendations. Artists selected for this category will be invited to participate in The Greenwich Workshop's Spring 2009 SmallWorks Fine Art Editions Catalogue.

The Greenwich Workshop Gallery and The Greenwich Workshop recognize the possibility of an artist's pre-existing publishing agreement and does not wish to create a conflict where this is the case, thus the concept of "invited to participate" in our SmallWorks Fine Art Edition Catalogue and publishing program. Previous arrangements shall be honored graciously and will have no bearing on determining the merit of any individual work of art during the selection process, nor of any prize or inclusion in the Top 40.

All awards and prizes will be determined prior to the opening of SmallWorks North America and will be posted on the website Thanksgiving Day, November 20, 2008. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners in a lump sum. Winning artists will be responsible for any applicable taxes.

Exhibition and Sale

SmallWorks North America is an exhibition and sale. Artworks submitted for entry will become part of the exhibition and sale if selected. Artwork unavailable for sale should not be submitted.

SmallWorks North America 2008 will be comprised of a maximum of three hundred (300) works of art, with no more than two works from any single artist.

The sale will occur in a "drop box" format. Each selected entry will be assigned a number, alphabetically by artist's last name and posted on the internet. Intents to Purchase will be collected either by phone, over the internet or at the gallery and placed into each box. Phone and internet inquiries will be pre-qualified.

For SmallWorks that have generated Intents to Purchase the name of the purchaser will be drawn the evening of the show opening. SmallWorks unsold the evening of the opening will remain on sale through December 31, 2008. SmallWorks unsold by that date will be returned to the artist in January.

The sale of all SmallWorks will be split 50% to the artist, 50% to the Greenwich Workshop Gallery. Submitting an artwork as an entry to the show constitutes an agreement with this condition.
